How to Decorate a Bedroom On a Budget

Moving and storage can both really put a dent in the bank account. Even if you do everything right and compare quotes to find the best deal and book far in advance, there are still expenses to deal with. For most of the population, this means that buying furnishings for the new place is pretty much out of the question.

Even if you do have a little money left over, it likely goes to a new sofa or kitchen table. Why shouldn’t the bedroom get the same amount of attention? After all, you spend about one-third of your life in there.

Paint Is Your Friend

You can fully transform a room on the smallest budget, with the use of paint. However, despite what you may think, paint is not just for walls and the ceiling! You can turn that old furniture you have or the nightstand you picked up at the yard sale into something really spectacular with a little color. Even picture frames and shelving can be painted contrasting colors.

Fun With Fabric

If you have not been to the fabric store, you will be quite surprised at how much fabric you can get for pocket change. Be sure to explore the discount bins. Many premium fabrics can be found simply because they are near the end of the roll. You can easily make window coverings and throw pillows. However, you can also create a headboard with fabric, or cover an entire wall or make a border with it. Fabric adds texture which provides depth, making the environment appear much richer.

Designs and Stencils

Why not paint one wall with stripes, polka dots or some other funky design? A little careful planning will allow a wall to become a focal point so no one notices the faded comforter on your bed.

Alternatively, stencils are perfect for offering a finishing touch to any space. You can stencil an entire border or simply add a little detail on your mirror or dresser drawers.

Bed In a Bag

You do not have to spend a ton of money on a new comforter or duvet. While it may not be the highest quality product, there are plenty of bed in a bag packages you can buy at an extremely reasonable price. They typically include a bed skirt, comforter, sheets and pillow shams. You can always save up and buy a nicer ensemble at a later date.

Just Add Trim

If you have plain bedding or curtains, why not just add rickrack, trim borders or ribbon to it? You can take a plain white pillowcases and turn it into something special with a few rows of lime green, tangerine and sunshine yellow trim.

If you are feeling the aftermath of expenses from moving and storage, you don’t have to wait for several months to decorate your bedroom. Set a budget and then get creative . You can also add wallpaper to the front of dresser drawers, replace drawer pulls and handles, create a canopy with fabric and even frame pieces of patterned scrapbook paper as art.

I’m not sure exactly why but this website is loading very slow for me. Is anyone else having this problem or is it a problem on my end? I’ll check
back later on and see if the problem still exists.

Excellent advice for anybody who is decorating on a budget. My favorite is painting the furniture, it makes it look brand new and paint is so cheap! Thanks!
